Job Title: Telecommunications Attendant I

Location: Stanford, CA 94305 (Onsite)

Duration: 3 Months (Contract)

Job Overview:

Stanford University is seeking a Telecommunications Attendant I to serve as the first point of contact for calls across the University, Medical Center, and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. This role requires strong multitasking ability, polished communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer, process, and direct high-volume calls to faculty, staff, physicians, patients, and students.
  • Dispatch medical emergency teams and manage critical notifications (e.g., trauma, fire, cardiac arrest, chemical spills).
  • Page medical staff and provide doctor-patient support using on-call rosters.
  • Operate phone and paging systems; establish conference calls and provide technical assistance to callers.
  • Maintain and update paging directory databases, prepare reports, and perform system diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with team members on process improvements and mentor co-workers on call handling/customer service skills.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and Stanford University policies.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in a customer service or call center environment (medical/university preferred).
  • Strong telephone etiquette, clear communication, and ability to multitask.
  • Typing speed of 40–50 WPM with proficiency in computer systems (MAC/DOS).
  • Familiarity with paging/telecommunication systems; ability to dispatch emergency teams.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts between 5 AM – 11:30 PM (post-training).
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Training & Shifts:

  • Training: 3–6 weeks, Monday–Friday, 5 AM – 5 PM.
  • After training: Fixed shift (between 5 AM – 11:30 PM), 5 days a week with 2 weekly offs.
