The Delivery Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the efficient, cost-effective, and safe movement of goods and people. This role involves planning routes, scheduling deliveries, managing drivers and fleet operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining high service standards. As a key leader in the logistics function, the Delivery Manager plays a critical role in sustaining a reliable supply chain and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
Core Responsibilities
Operations & Planning
- Develop and implement transportation schedules and route plans for all fleet operations.
- Oversee deliveries for all current and future Small Batch customers.
- Optimize routes and resources as new stops or customers are added.
- Serve as a backup driver as needed for special deliveries or to cover no-shows.
Team Leadership
- Manage daily driver communications, scheduling, time approvals, and training.
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding of drivers.
- Conduct daily debriefs and end-of-day reporting with drivers.
- Foster a culture of excellence, white-glove service, and safety compliance.
- Recommend disciplinary actions when necessary.
Fleet & Resource Management
- Oversee transportation vehicles, personnel, and resources.
- Schedule and coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, and leasing service (e.g., Ryder).
- Address all vehicle maintenance issues (GPS, temp controls, oil/engine/tire upkeep, licensing).
- Conduct weekly vehicle inspections and cleanings.
- Manage insurance-related needs, including COIs and incident reporting.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
- Conduct weekly safety audits and implement driver safety training.
- Maintain current licenses, registrations, and documentation.
Performance & Cost Control
- Track transportation KPIs and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor and control transportation costs, implementing cost-optimization strategies.
- Utilize software tools (Optimo, Monnit Temp Control, routing software) to streamline operations.
Customer & Market Support
- Ensure white-glove product handling during deliveries.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to damages, miscounts, or delays.
- Manage weekend farmers market fleet operations, ensuring timely deliveries and communication with the Market Manager.
- Uphold customer standards of quality and service at all times.
Specific Tasks
- Complete daily closing checklist (photos, on-time stops, temp compliance, vehicle condition).
- Approve PTO requests, manage schedules, and ensure full coverage (with backups/on-call staff).
- Debrief with drivers daily and prepare end-of-day reports.
- Collaborate with supervisors to improve routes and processes.
Physical Requirements
- Actively participate in operations alongside team members.
- Must be available for scheduled shifts throughout the week.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to drive for shifts up to 10 hours.
- Serve as a backup driver when needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- Valid New York State Driver’s License.
- Minimum 3 years in a management role.
- Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
