Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a driven and experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer to support EHS compliance and initiatives across two chemical manufacturing facilities and three warehouses. This role demands a hands-on leader with strong problem-solving skills, who takes full ownership and accountability to drive safety, environmental compliance, and process improvement initiatives.

You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, implementing corporate EHS programs, and fostering a strong safety culture across the organization. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable working independently, and is capable of building strong cross-functional relationships across multiple locations.

This role can be located in either Santa Clarita, CA or Florence, KY.

Key Responsibilities

  • EHS Program Development and Management
    • Develop and implement comprehensive EHS programs: This includes creating and managing written programs, policies, and procedures for both locations, ensuring they meet and exceed all federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
    • Conduct regular EHS audits: Perform internal audits at both plant locations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all regulations and company policies.
    • Manage EHS training: Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training to all employees, covering topics like hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and emergency response.
  • Chemical and Environmental Compliance
    • Ensure chemical safety: Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of all chemicals. This includes maintaining the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) library and ensuring all employees have access to this information.
    • Manage environmental permits: Monitor and maintain compliance with environmental permits (e.g., air, water, waste) and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
    • Handle hazardous waste: Supervise the proper segregation, labeling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with EPA and DOT regulations.
  • Health and Safety
    • Lead incident investigations: Conduct thorough investigations of all EHS-related incidents, near misses, and injuries. This includes identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • Perform risk assessments: Conduct job hazard analyses and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with plant operations.
    • Oversee personal protective equipment (PPE): Manage the selection, use, and maintenance of required PPE for all employees.
    • Promote a positive safety culture: Champion safety awareness and accountability among all employees and leadership.
  • Lead EHS efforts across two manufacturing sites and three warehouses, spending approximately 50% of time traveling between locations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies: Act as the main point of contact for external auditors and inspectors from agencies like OSHA and the EPA.
  • Prepare and maintain EHS reports: Keep detailed records of EHS metrics, including incident rates, training completion, and audit findings.
  • Collaborate with leadership: Advise plant leadership on EHS performance and future program initiatives.
