PROBATION OFFICER I

Annual Salary: $45,000 Full-Time, Permanent, Exempt, Classified Probationary Period: 180 days Reports to: Chief Probation Officer and Deputy Director Clermont County Municipal Court Adult Probation Department 4436 State Route 222 Batavia, OH 45103

JOB DUTIES:

This position is responsible for the supervision of a full caseload of offenders, oversees completion of specific conditions of probation/community control, coordinates and monitors services with community based treatment agencies, evaluates risk and needs to match offender services, monitors payment of fines, costs and restitution, and any other general duties as assigned. This employee is responsible for investigating, counseling and monitoring misdemeanor offenders referred by the court for supervision. The work activities of this position include data entry and written information for presentation to the court, and the monitoring of individuals placed on reporting probation/community control. Assumes supervision of offenders granted probation/community control and reviews general conditions and specific sanctions of probation/community control imposed by the court. Performs all functions for pre- and post-sentence investigations including interviewing defendants, family members and victims, make home and collateral contacts, identify risks and needs of the probationer, make recommendations to the court regarding appropriate treatment and sanctions to the offenders identified, and determination and monitoring payment of court ordered restitution, fines and costs. Additional duties will be assigned as needed by the Chief Probation Officer and Deputy Director. Employee must understand and follow county and departmental safety procedures, which includes handling of confidential information. A bachelor's degree is required in a criminal justice related field. The PO I should have a familiarity with supervision, counseling, decision making, problem solving methods, community resources, effective oral and written communication, and effective time management. Knowledge of office practices and procedures; ability to define problems, collect data, analyze circumstances and draw appropriate conclusions; familiarity with data collection and statistical reporting; strong Windows based computer skills [ie: Word, Excel, Access and Outlook] and capability to efficiently learn new department-specific computer software programs and equipment; and education, training and/or experience required to perform the duties required of this position. Employee must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Employee must understand and follow county and departmental safety procedures, which includes handling of confidential information. Position requires moderate lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching and bending. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should possess a BA/BS in corrections, psychology, sociology or criminal justice related fields. Experience in criminal justice, law enforcement or surveillance; OPOTA training preferred. Knowledge of basic office practices and procedures; ability to define problems, collect data, analyze the circumstances and draw appropriate conclusions; Windows based computer skills and capability to efficiently learn new department-specific computer software programs and equipment; and education, training and/or experience required to perform the duties required of this position. Employee must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
