POSITION SUMMARY
The HVAC/General Maintenance Technician will maintain, modify, overhaul, install and repair various commercial heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and food service equipment. Will also repair, troubleshoot, provide preventive maintenance, and conduct installation work related to other commercial building systems and equipment including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, general repairs, and furnishings.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair commercial heating, ventilating, air conditioning systems and equipment.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration and food service equipment.
• Programming, scheduling, and implementing energy saving strategies with BAS.
• Preventive maintenance and installation work related to other commercial building systems including electrical, plumbing, general repair, and furnishings.

REQUIREMENTS

Technical Skills
• Thorough knowledge and skill in HVAC and Refrigeration
• Skills include troubleshooting, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and breakdown repair as well as the installation and fabrication techniques typical of the trade.
• Capable of performing mathematical computations of the trade.
Non-Technical Skills and Competencies
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with customers and staff.
• Must be capable of driving University vehicles and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability with the University’s auto insurance policy.
• Continually update knowledge through appropriate courses, publications, etc.
Education and Experience
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a two-year training program in HVAC and refrigeration or equivalent apprenticeship.
• A minimum of three years’ hands on experience with commercial HVAC/Refrigeration systems is required.
• A good working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trades.
Certifications & Licenses
• Must possess a valid US EPA Type II or Universal CFC license.
Workplace Factors
• Strength and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of this job. Be in good physical condition so as to be able to perform heavy lifting, transport equipment and materials to various sites. Be able to routinely lift 50-pound objects from the ground to shoulder height without assistance.
• Occasionally work in confined spaces and those that will require bending, stooping, and kneeling.
• Must be able to walk, climb ladders and scaffolding, work from heights and walk roofs.
• Must be able to withstand inclement weather.
Reports To: Manager of Facility Maintenance
Department: Physical Plant Department
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Primarily 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Typically, a half hour meal break. Occasional overtime required.
