The Researcher I (Biological technician, herpetology) will Conduct field surveys for herpetofauna, and capture and tag organisms
Compensation & Benefits: Pay commensurate with experience.

Researcher I Responsibilities Include: - Conducts field surveys, captures and tagging
- Plans and executes data management
- Maintains relationships and interacts with project partners
- Applies knowledge, skills and experience with data visualization to developed high quality reports and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations.
- Field work includes
- (1) deploying and using various trapping methods, such as drift fencing, to survey for and capture herpetofauna;
- (2) marking and sampling captured herpetofauna species including turtles, lizards and snakes;
- (3) conducting visual road surveys for herpetofauna at night,
- (4) assisting in deployment of satellite tags on terrestrial and aquatic turtles,
- (5) assisting in arranging of logistics for collaborative field efforts.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Researcher I Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested: - Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences.
- Experience identifying herpetofauna found in the southern Texas region, and deploying and using various trapping methods to survey for and capture herpetofauna.
- Experience working independently and maintaining successful partnerships. Ability to work within and maintain databases.
- Proficiency in identifying herpetofauna commonly found in the southern Texas region
- Ability to identify anurans by calls will be required.
- Skills capturing, handling and marking various herpetofauna including turtles, snakes and newts
- Experience with automated audio recorders and audio analysis for anuran calls desired.
- Experience with R software and ability to speak Spanish desired.
- Experience with database software, such as Excel or Access
- Previous field experience required.
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
