School Social Worker needed in the Bronx!
Part time position!
Overview
The school social worker will provide expertise to deliver successful outcomes for the following objective:
• Works collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing the highest quality of services to children, families and staff.
• Directs the development and implementation of the Mental Health plans in compliance with the New York City Department of Education regulations
• Reviews and evaluate existing program and update annual Mental Health plans, in conjunction with Advisory Committee, parents, community representatives, and staff.
• Develops and implements a plan and system for monitoring and evaluating Mental Health activities. Determine areas of weakness and make recommendations for corrective action.
• Assists in the coordination of other Mental Health components.
• Meets regularly with site director and other Specialists to coordinate efforts to implement the program.
• Prepares monthly reports of Mental Health activities and submits them to the site director and Advisory Committee.
Works collaboratively with parents/families by:
• Soliciting family information from the enrollment conference, meetings, home visits, classroom observations, parent meetings, team meetings, and telephone
conversations.
• Performing and sharing classroom and behavioral/social/emotional observations with families, as necessary.
• Performing and sharing classroom and behavioral/social/emotional observations with families, as necessary.
• Discussing strengths and concerns about a student's mental health with family members. Including age-appropriate development and behavior as well as how to
appropriately respond to a child.
• Supporting families in any needed mental health interventions including making referrals to local mental health agencies.
Provides a regular schedule of mental health consultation involving program staff and families which includes:
• The design and implementation of program practices which are responsive to the identified behavioral and mental health issues.
• Assists in providing special help for children with atypical behaviors utilizing the Creative Curriculum, ASQ, and community mental health resources.
• Conducts classroom observations for students with developmental and behavioral challenges.
• Develops behavior team meeting agendas and working collaboratively to create behavior intervention plans.
• Provides in-service education and trainings to staff on a variety of mental health topics
• Develops and maintains relationships with local community agencies which serve the preschool population in the Mt. Hope/Burnside and Fordham/Bedford Park area of the Bronx.
• Attends monthly Goal Setting meetings.
• Helps plan and facilitate the Health Advisory Committee with the Health & Nutrition Specialists.
• Works collaboratively with all staff in provision of services to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery to students and family.
• Enters data. Assessments, screening information into data collection system
• Provides adequate safeguards to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information per program and regulatory agency policies.
• Maintains knowledge of current trends in assessment, service delivery and best practices by participating in staff development and professional conferences to remain current in
the field of mental health.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
• Graduate of an Accredited College or University with a Master's of Social Work or equivalent Master's level degree in counseling, gerontology, psychology or related field.
