RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in the examination and treatment of animals by restraining them safely and providing comfort
• Observe and record vital signs, behavior and physical condition of the animals, reporting any changes to the veterinary team
• Support veterinarians during examinations, surgeries and diagnostic procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is prepared and sterile
• Collect and prepare laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces) for analysis and perform basic laboratory tests as needed
• Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing information on treatment plans, medications and follow-up care
• Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by veterinarians and provide education to clients on proper administration
• Ensure cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, exam rooms, kennels and adhering to sanitation protocols
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for each patient including treatments, medications and observations. Experience with AviMark a plus.

SKILLS

• Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or related field
• Strong ability to handle and restrain a variety of animals safely and compassionately
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interactions with clients and team players – bi-lingual in Spanish is an added plus!
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including being able to lift a 50 lb. animal

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
