Position Title: Custodian / Janitor
Reports To: Site Supervisor or Operations Manager
Location: Aspire Public Schools Campus – Sacramento, CA
Employment Type: Part-Time
Position Summary:
The Custodian/Janitor plays a key role in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and orderly environment at Aspire Public Schools. This position is responsible for executing daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning duties across classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and communal areas. The custodian ensures that students, staff, and visitors enjoy a safe, healthy, and presentable learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Duties:
Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, cafeterias, hallways, and gym areas
Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, and vacuum floors
Empty trash receptacles and replace liners
Refill dispensers (toilet paper, paper towels, soap)
Wipe and disinfect high-touch surfaces and furniture
Remove fingerprints from glass and door surfaces
Secure buildings and turn off lights as directed after shift
Weekly Duties:
Perform high and low dusting of vents, ledges, and corners
Deep clean high-traffic areas and restrooms
Clean interior glass surfaces
Sweep and mop beneath floor mats
Monthly Duties:
Spot-clean walls and doors
Dust HVAC vents and clean cobwebs from exterior/interior corners
Check and clean break room appliances and fixtures
Quarterly & Annual Deep Cleaning:
Strip and wax VCT floors
Extract and deep clean carpets
Pressure wash designated exterior entryways
Breakroom & Office Area Cleaning:
Clean and disinfect sinks and microwaves
Wipe tables, countertops, and breakroom furniture
Vacuum carpets and mop hard floors
Organize and lightly dust chairs and work surfaces
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Minimum 1 year custodial experience preferred
Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods
Familiarity with floor machines, carpet extractors, and other janitorial equipment
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
Must pass a background check and meet school safety standards
Work Environment:
Indoors and outdoors in a school setting
Evening or early morning hours; Monday–Friday schedule
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying temperatures
