About the Role: Seeking a highly motivated and talented peptide chemistry leader to join our new discovery peptide research group. The successful candidate will work on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel peptides and peptide conjugates to discover next-generation peptide-based therapeutics. Your expert synthetic knowledge and proven design and synthetic accomplishments will enable you to have a significant impact on the company’s projects. Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to): Lead projects and teams towards agreed-upon goals, ultimately working towards clinical candidate peptide nomination. Design, synthesize, and characterize peptides, small proteins, and chemically modified analogs using state-of-the-art synthesis, bioconjugation, purification, analytical, and biophysical techniques. Independent data-driven optimization of peptide SAR. Effective communication of scientific rationale, results, and interpretation at project, team, and departmental meetings, contributing to strategic discussions. Active collaboration and sharing of expertise with colleagues. Build and enhance internal and external professional relationships. Aid in recruiting peptide group scientists. Future management of more junior scientists. Requirements: PhD in organic chemistry or related field, with at least 5 subsequent years of experience in an industrial setting. Proficient in all aspects of modern peptide synthesis, protein bioconjugation, peptide and protein purification, and analysis. Experience in optimizing and delivering peptide-protein conjugates as candidates for clinical trials. Strong publication record of accomplishment. Strong understanding of peptide and protein structure and associated biophysical techniques to assess structure, stability, and behavior in solution. Experience in bioconjugation, time-extension, and formulation strategies for peptides and proteins. Motivated to maintain a strong laboratory presence along with design and planning activities. Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication abilities. Demonstration of cross-functional understanding related to drug development. Assimilates data and research findings outside of our company for application to new scientific projects. Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability working with/recommending a variety of laboratory equipment/tools. Prioritizes teamwork above all else. Exhibits leadership skills and ability, typically leads lower levels and/or indirect teams. Excellent computer, communications, problem-solving, and analytical thinking skills. Sees broader picture, impact on multiple programs, teams, and/or departments. Ability to meet multiple deadlines across a variety of projects/programs, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
